Build a useful starting pack

The purpose of this checklist is to help an adviser understand the business quickly. It is an editorial preparation aid, not a complete filing checklist. Your adviser may need different documents, particular reporting periods, or urgent information.

Documents to locate

  • Entity and ownership information, including related businesses.
  • Recent financial statements and a current cash forecast.
  • Bank statements and lists of receivables and payables.
  • Loan agreements, security documents, and personal guarantees.
  • Important leases, supplier agreements, and customer contracts.
  • Tax notices, litigation papers, collection notices, and existing court orders.
  • An overview of payroll and employee obligations.
  • A list of questions and time-sensitive concerns.

Keep sensitive information secure

Share records through a channel agreed with your lawyer. Do not send personal identifiers or account documents to a general newsletter address or website form. Use the printable checklist to track what you have gathered; the website does not collect your financial documents.
